Everyday, plagiarism is becoming a more frequent subject in the news.  The New York Times recently published a very interesting article that examines the current state of plagiarism in the world today. 

The Steven Spielberg film ‘Catch Me if You Can’ follows the true story of Frank Abagnale Jr., a famous US con-man who lied his way through much of life with great success.  Some of Abagnale’s feats included forging $2.5 million in checks as well as creating several fake identities (an airline pilot, doctor and lawyer to name a few).  In the end, after serving minor prison time, Abagnale was tapped by the FBI to help prevent forgeries and also went on to found a successful security consultancy.

Every day, Google News aggregates links to millions of stories from websites across the Internet based on a variety of factors. Some of these factors include a site’s trustability, relevance, page rank, title and keywords used in the specific articles.

Today, copying and computer programming seem like two concepts that might be blurred together. 

China’s economy is rapidly growing in a variety of industries.  One growing sector is even profiting off of the rising incidence of plagiarism in China’s university and research institutions. 

One of the biggest plagiarism law suits of the decade continues to make headlines in the UK and internationally. Billionaire ‘Harry Potter’ author J.K. Rowling and her publisher Bloomsbury Publishing PLC face an ongoing law suit coming from the estate of a now-deceased fantasy writer.  

Until very recently in history, most of the content that reached our eyes and ears was ‘professionally’ made.  The magazines, books, newspapers, radio shows, movies and video clips of the past were created by an organization or specialist whose profession was writing, film making, producing music, etc.

As we all are probably aware, that standard model of content creation has drastically changed in the past decade because of the internet.  

The internet provides a unique way to listen in to what the world is currently speaking about.  Particularly with the advent of real-time search and social media, we can see trends within ongoing global chatter down to a keyword or topic.
